Yesterday, Ms. Borden challenged students to build a house for one of the 3 Little Pigs that would withstand 10 seconds of "huffing and puffing" from the Big Bad Wolf. Each group of three was given a paper plate, 20 toothpicks and a hunk of clay to create their structure - nothing else could be used! The students came up with several innovative designs to protect their Little Piggy from the Big Bad Wolf (aka Ms. Borden's hairdryer). Take a look below at some of the structures that our class created:

We've had a lot going on in the past little while. From our Kindergarten concert, to the Victoria Day long weekend - it's been an exciting couple of weeks! We're currently working on a special unit in the library with Ms. Borden about Fairytales. We are focusing on retelling and re-imagining well known stories using all kinds of neat STEM resources. Today we used a fantastic coding app called Scratch Jr. on the iPads to create and animate our own storyboards - and even record our voices! Students really enjoyed having the opportunity to experiment with coding and storytelling and I was so impressed with what wonderful and respectful listeners they were! On Monday, we will be retelling the "3 Little Pigs" and trying to recreate the three different houses with various building materials! In the meantime, take a look at some photos from today's session: For those of you who have access to an iPad, Android tablet or Chromebook at home, Scratch Jr. is a free(!!!) application you can download. It allows children to create their own stories and use simple coding to animate and record their voices. It really is an excellent free resource! Click here to read more. Just a couple other reminders for the upcoming weeks:
