Notre enquête sur les pommes

This week we've been learning all about apples and our 5 senses! We investigated the outside and inside of apples and described how they look, feel, smell, taste - and even sound! We learned about the life cycle of an apple, from a small seed, to a tree that flowers and eventually turns into juicy apples that we will pick and eat. We used our 5 senses to gather information about apples and discovered the following information:

We read several books about apples throughout the week, as well some books about the 5 senses. We were curious to see how our classmates prefer to enjoy consuming apples so we decided to do a poll. You can see the results below - Apple Juice was the big winner with apple slices coming in a distant second!

Even though nobody chose Apple Sauce as their preferred way to eat apples, we thought it would be a fun activity to try to follow a recipe and make our very own in the classroom. We took turns measuring out the ingredients and mixing it into the slow cooker. The Kindergarten hallway smelled so delicious all day long - like warm apples and cinnamon!
Our apple sauce was ready just in time for afternoon snack and everyone who wanted to was able to sample it. Some friends loved it, while others thought it was a little bit sour, and others didn't like it at all! We talked about how everyone has likes different tastes - and that's totally fine - that's one thing that makes us unique! Please check out some photos below:
If you'd like to try making apple sauce at home - here is a copy of the recipe we used!

I can't believe the first month of school is already over! It's clear to see that our little friends have settled right in and are comfortable with the routines and expectations of Kindergarten. We've been learning lots of new new vocabulary, French songs, and have started our Letter of the Week Program. We have also been having many fire drills to practice lining up and exiting the building quickly and safely so we know what to do in case of an emergency. Here is a photo of us lined up today while we waited for the firemen to do a full inspection:

We've also started talking about Thanksgiving (or L'action de grâces in French). Yesterday, during our library visit, Ms. Borden read a lovely story about being thankful and then played a game with the class. Each student had a turn rolling the "thankful" dice, and answered a question based on which side the di landed on. Here are some of the things our class is thankful for:
  • What is something in nature you are thankful for? Birds, rivers, the sunshine
  • Who is someone you are thankful for? My mom, my dad, Poppy, my friends
  • What is an object you are thankful for? Books, my bicycle, my toys
  • What is a place you are thankful for? My house, Disney World, the park, school
  • What is a food you are thankful for? Chicken, spaghetti, candy
