Good afternoon,

In April, our class participated in a government-sponsored art contest for World Oceans Day. The theme of this year's contest was "Our Ocean - Our Future." We discussed the consequences of pollution on aquatic animals and plants and brainstormed ideas of how we could represent this theme in a creative way through our art.
A couple of weeks ago, I received word from the committee informing me that the poster of one of my students was selected as the Grade 5 winner! Congratulations to Paige F! Today, she was presented with her prize - which included lots of cool Ocean-themed gear! Jonah P. was also selected as a runner-up for the Grade 5 posters and received a cool bag! Way to go! I am so proud!

Good afternoon everyone,

Our next Math test (Ch. 9 - La division) will be next Wednesday, May 24th. A study guide was sent home today with students. We started working on the Chapter Review today in class, and will be finishing it up tomorrow. I suggest that, if possible, over the long weekend, students compile a list of any questions they have so I can help them as necessary on Tuesday. The questions on the test will be very similar to those in the Chapter Review.

In Language Arts, we just finished reading our latest novel "Too Many Secrets" - and students will be doing a brief choice project next week. In Français, we are finishing up reading Sooshewan - La jeune Beothuk (which ties in with our current unit in Sciences Humaines). In Sciences Humaines, students are in the midst of class presentations on various First Nations Groups. We have just started our last unit in Science, Forces and Structures, which is sure to be interesting! 

Just a reminder that our final Fine Arts concert for the year will take place tomorrow evening. This includes all members of the Band, Show Choir and the Drama Group's Production of The Lion King.

Students are expected to be here at 6:30 tomorrow evening, and tickets are currently on sale at the office for $3 each.

It will surely be a great show!

Hello everyone!

Just a few updates and reminders for the next few weeks:

• May calendars are being sent home today (also available here)
• Lap-a-thon forms and money are due in by Friday, May 5th at the latest
• PD Day on May 19th - no school for students!
• Victoria Day on May 22nd - no school for students!
• Our class is going on an outing to Rotary Park on May 30th - more information to follow.

We are currently working on all kinds of exciting things in school. We`ve started Division in Math, Indigenous heritage in Social Studies, and a new novel in Language arts. We`re finishing up our unit on poetry in French and our unit on Matter in Science. Only 2 months of school left - I can`t believe it!
