Hi everyone! We have a lot of exciting things happening in our classroom this month. Firstly, yesterday we began our Tomatosphère seed investigation - a project sponsored by Let's Talk Science. We watched a couple of videos on the experiment itself, and discovered that one of our two packets of tomato seeds spent 3 months aboard the International Space Station. The packets of seeds are labelled "N" and "P" and we don't know which ones have been to space! We planted our seeds yesterday and we will track and record our results. How many of our seeds will germinate? How many will grow into a full tomato plant? At the very end, we will input our results to the Tomatosphère website and find out if our predictions were right! Was packet "N" or "P" that travelled to space and back? Also, once our investigation is over, students will get to take home their very own tomato plant!
This month, we are also learning about our community, and exploring the many different types of jobs and careers a person can have. I reached out a couple of weeks ago inquiring if there were any parents or grandparents who were interested in joining our class virtually to do a short presentation on what they do for a living. I've heard back from a few parents who I've scheduled in for later this week and next! We had George's mom, Jennie, join us this morning to discuss her role at Newfoundland Power, and specifically, the Take Charge program and how we can all make changes to help save energy. The students were so engaged! Thanks again Jennie!
And lastly, we've been trying to get outdoors whenever the weather permits. We've been lucky that the rain has mostly held up for us to get out and play daily - but we're still waiting patiently for it to warm up! Brrr... the wind is still pretty chilly out there some days!
