This morning, local artist Isabella St. John visited our class for our third ArtSmarts session. This time, each student was given a clay plate and a hunk of soft clay. Ms. St. John brought a variety of fresh fruits and veggies with her and demonstrated how to use our hands and some simple tools to recreate the shapes of the foods with clay. Students did an excellent job modelling a plateful of healthy food out of their clay! Isabella has taken all of our plates back to her studio to fire them in her kiln. Later on in the Spring, she will visit our class again to help us mix colours and paint our sculptures to make a beautiful finished product!
Ask your child which healthy foods they chose to include on their clay plate and have them explain to you which techniques they used to create them!
