Parents, we are very excited to inform you that Topsail Elementary's Kindergarten classes (Ms. O'Driscoll & Mrs. Beaumaster) have been asked to take part in a Kindergarten Makeover project this year. This is an initiative of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to produce a video of a model Kindergarten classroom to use as a training video to support the implementation of Full Day Kindergarten (FDK), which is scheduled to start in 2016. The video will highlight both the teaching methodologies as well as the physical set up of a model Kindergarten classroom to support the philosophy and implementation of the FDK program.
This project will be completed in three phases. First, will be a minor renovation of the classroom. The second phase will be the purchasing and setting up of the new resources, and the third and final stage will be the production of the video tape to be used with other schools for the FDK training.
Part one of the classroom makeover project will take place over the next two weeks. It consists of having two of our classrooms remodeled, which will consist of removal of shelving, new washrooms, painting and plastering. The classroom renovation will start this weekend.
To accomodate this remodeling, the students' classrooms will be relocated to different classrooms down by the Learning Resource Centre.
The second and third phases of this project will take place in February, and you will be informed of each of these phases as they happen.
During phase one (beginning Monday, January 25th), the students will continue to go to their lockers as usual. We will have older students and teachers to redirect them to their new, temporary classrooms.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Conway or Mr. Deveaux.
Thank you!
